The Sawmill’s all-weather performance echoes back over 40 years to the 1970s when Red Wing’s line of Great Outdoors boots broke new ground with construction to withstand the elements. The Sawmill is inspired by this legacy of American-made footwear built for confidence in all conditions. The 6-inch boot’s moisture-wicking lining and felt wool footbed keep feet warm, and a storm welt adds water resistance. Puritan triple-stitch construction ensures lasting durability, and a Vibram® TC-4 Plus outsole provides aggressive traction. The Sawmill is finished with a deerskin collar for premium comfort. Roughout and Nubuck leather is created using a reverse-suede technique. Many tanneries split and thin hides to create suede, but our tannery simply uses the other side of the hide. This allows us to create beautiful roughout and nubuck leather with no loss of durability. Actively maintaining leather is the most effective way to ensure integrity and longevity.
